Standard First-Aid RE-CERTIFICATION is a one-day training program which meets the requirements for Federal and a variety of Provincial/Territorial regulations including Occupational Health & Safety for Standard First-Aid.

This comprehensive program covers and reviews  basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who  are looking to renew their knowledge base and skill set for re-certification of the full 2 day Standard First-Aid program.

Due to certain work requirements or commitments, this program allows you to re-certify in one (1) day rather than two (2) days, for the full Standard First-Aid program.

PLEASE NOTE:

Participants must  hold a VALID (Non-Expired) Standard First-Aid Certificate the day of the program.

This re-certification program includes the latest First-Aid and Level “C” CPR guidelines and exceeds competitors’ standards by including injury prevention content, CPR and AED.

The SELF TEACH option is best suited for individuals requiring a general understanding of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations for road transport and like to work at their own pace.

For students that have taken the program before, this is a great way to refresh the participants knowledge for re-certification.

Upon successful completion of the course material and a written examination, the student will be issued a certificate which indicates the level of training and is valid for a period of 3 years.

The Canadian Red Cross – WEFA (Workplace Emergency First Aid) program provides the additional certification that satisfies the WorkSafe BC requirements for OFA  1 (Occupational First Aid) Level 1.

This equivalency  program was designed specifically to meet the requirements of British Columbia (BC) workplaces. It teaches workers how to deal with the most common workplace first-aid emergencies.

Program includes CPR Level A (Adult), choking procedures as well as emergency scene management, dealing with shock, spinal injuries, minor wound management, major bleeding, internal bleeding, poisons and minor burns. Students will also be trained to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).

Fall Protection – is a  one-day Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA) approved program that is designed to give active users a thorough understanding of fall protection including fall arrest and work positioning systems that are available in industries today.

This course will ensure that students are well versed in dealing with fall hazards and provide hands-on experience/applications with different types of fall protection equipment.

 

What will I learn in this safety training course?

In this course, the following topics are covered:

  • fall statistics, definitions and the parts of a fall protection system
  • permanent, temporary and engineered anchors
  • energy absorbers /shock absorbers, lanyards, self retracting life lines, vertical life lines and rope grabs, as well, horizontal life lines
  • different harness types, uses, donning, and inspection
  • free fall, total fall distance and required clearance
  • control zones, safety nets, and fall protection on ladders
  • equipment care, maintenance, and inspection
  • fall protection planning, fall rescue planning and equipment requirements

This program is the standard for training not only in Alberta, but has been adopted across Canada. The Oil Sands Safety Association has done a great job of creating a level of excellence that is recognized nationally.

Along with the hands-on techniques, the instructor demonstrates three (3) actual drop tests with a CSA 220 lb. test weight. One of the drop tests demonstrated is to deploy a shock absorber for class discussion.
