Canada Safety Council ATV Safe Rider program is a one day ATV (Quad) rider course.
The program consists of both classroom and a field session/hands-on, with particular emphasis on the safety implications relating to each lesson covered in the program.
The field session/hands-on portion of the program includes unloading of machine, a pre-ride inspection of each machine, starting and stopping, turning (gradual and quick), hills (stopping, turning around, traversing), emergency stopping, swerving, and riding over obstacles.

- Personal protective gear
- Local laws and regulations
- Environmental concerns
- Machine breakdown
- Safety techniques
- Loading, unloading & securing
Upon completion of the field skills, the instructor will demonstrate and allow the students to load and secure the ATV machine on a trailer.
The key to safe enjoyment of any off-highway vehicle is being responsible, using common sense and practicing important skills, all of which are covered and practiced in this program.
Participants must provide ATV, approved helmet, protective footwear, protective eye-wear and appropriate clothing as the training takes place in the outdoors.
Full participation, hands-on skills and a written examination are required to successfully complete the program and receive certification which is valid for 3 years.
Riders participating in this program are required to bring:
- ATV (Good Condition)
- Proper outer wear – rain, mud or snow
(clothing, boots, gloves, helmet, safety glasses or goggles). - Large bottle of water for hydration
- Bagged lunch
